JASON FROST
“Our aim is to make farming more environmentally and economically sustainable, via high-quality organic manure made on-farm, which I believe is better suited than the imported synthetic growth products currently in use. So here we are making our way toward the goal of building several hundred Anaerobic Digesters, from one end of Aotearoa to the other, all for the good of New Zealand.”
A JOURNEY TO A CLEAN GREEN FUTURE
Jason was raised on a 4000-acre sheep and beef farm in the central north island, spending many hours working and exploring the many wetlands on the farm. He recalls the dragon flies, frogs, eels and birds in the swamps and ponds, and the clean streams he would regularly drink from.
Jason did a building apprenticeship in Ohakune in the late 80s. Building during the day, haymaking or water-skiing in the summer evenings, and snow skiing in the winter, alongside trout fishing and hunting any time he could. Jason learnt building the old school way, digging footings by hand in the frozen ground and mixing concrete for those footings in a concrete mixer. They made their own frames, did the cladding, put roofs and spouting on, and even installed the kitchens and did the landscaping. This is probably where Jason got his ‘can do’ attitude, and can turn his hand to most things.
After spending a decade being self-employed building masonry homes, and any spare time tinkering with cars, Jason changed direction and set up ECU Chips, a diesel tuning business that has successfully tuned thousands of cars, utes and trucks throughout New Zealand. This also took him back to heartland New Zealand, tuning tractors and agriculture machinery on farms and in contractors’ workshops.
Jason loves motorcycling around our beautiful country, but one thing became obvious to him on these rides. Where there was no intensive farming, the rivers and streams are clear. Where there is intensive farming, the rivers and streams seemed contaminated and discoloured.
Around 2016 Jason was introduced to the concept of Anaerobic Digestion and the amazing benefits it could have for New Zealand. He developed a keen interest in the Anaerobic Digestion process, and after a lot of thought, Jason came to the realisation that this is what he wanted to do with the rest of his working years. So, with a sound construction and technical background Jason foundered Provarko Ltd in January 2020, with a focus on making New Zealand rivers clean again.
